Ivanplats Metallurgy Internship Opportunity Minimum Requirements
- A 4-year BSc, BTech, or BEng Degree in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering (NQF Level 7)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across different departments
- A valid South African driver’s licence
- Must be based in Mokopane or willing to relocate
Ivanplats Metallurgy Internship Opportunity Experience Requirements
Suitable candidates should have:
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience with proven concentrator plant experience as an intern metallurgist
- Basic understanding of plant control room operations
- Knowledge of metal accounting principles, practices, and implementation (advantageous)
- Knowledge of mass and metal balancing for PGM and base metals (advantageous)
- Experience in process control systems, information databases, and metallurgical optimisation systems (advantageous)
- Understanding of PGM and base metal analytical methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and plant software systems
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting or supervising routine plant sampling
- Monitoring recovery, throughput, grind size, density, reagent consumption, and concentrate grade
- Identifying process bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Participating in metallurgical test work and plant trials
- Compiling daily, weekly, and monthly metallurgical reports
- Investigating deviations in recovery or grade performance
- Supporting senior metallurgists with process optimisation initiatives
Additional Duties
- Monitoring water treatment plant performance
- Managing process monitoring equipment, calibrations, and certifications
- Validating smart sensor data for system functionality and uptime
- Coordinating with cross-functional teams to implement and monitor process improvements
