The Trainee Controller programme provides successful candidates with training related to the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products through pipeline operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have either:
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science
OR
- N3 Technical Engineering in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Metering Control and Instrumentation
Applicants must also:
- Have a valid Code 08–10 driver’s licence
- Have a good command of English
- Be able to undergo the required competency assessments
The assessments may cover technical ability, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and abstract reasoning.
Candidates should, however, be comfortable working within a technical and operational environment where safety, accuracy and following procedures are important.
Duties & Responsibilities
Successful trainees will receive training and workplace exposure relating to:
- Petroleum pipeline operations
- Monitoring the movement of petroleum products
- Risk and pollution control
- Identifying and responding to leaks and spillages
- Monitoring operational risks
- Following health and safety procedures
- Monitoring pipeline equipment
- Product quality testing
- Checking product metering equipment
- Supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
- Performing operational shutdown procedures when required
- Recording and capturing operational information
