Eskom Learner Technician Electrical Engineering Programme 2026

Eskom is inviting suitably qualified South African candidates to apply for its Learner Technician Programme in Electrical Engineering (Heavy/Light Current). The programme provides institutionalised and on-the-job technical training at various Eskom operations.

Successful candidates will receive practical workplace training in protection, power electronics, excitation control (AVR) and SCASS, including the testing, maintenance and commissioning of plant.

About the Programme

The successful candidates will be afforded institutionalised and on-the-job training in protection, power electronics, excitation control (AVR) and SCASS.

The training will include the testing, maintenance and commissioning of plant.

Applicants who successfully complete the recruitment process may be placed within Eskom Operations across the divisions.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be a South African citizen
• Have fully completed S4/S5/National Diploma theoretical subjects in Electrical Engineering
• Have studied Electrical Engineering – Heavy Current or Light Current
• Be willing to undergo the required recruitment process
• Be willing to be placed at Eskom operations

• Witbank SCASS
• Witbank AVR
• Kusile Power Station
• Camden Power Station
• Matimba Power Station
• Matla Power Station
• Hendrina Power Station
• Arnot Power Station
• Lethabo Power Station
• Majuba Power Station

Training and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will receive practical training that includes:

• Protection systems
• Power electronics
• Excitation control (AVR)
• SCASS
• Testing of electrical plant
• Maintenance
• Commissioning of plant
• Applying theoretical knowledge in a practical plant environment
• Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation
• Using electrical test and measuring instruments
• Completing a structured training logbook
