About the City of Cape Town Graduate and Student Internship Database
The City of Cape Town offers training and skills development opportunities to suitably qualified candidates who live in Cape Town.
The database provides access to different development programmes, depending on an applicant’s qualifications and the requirements of available opportunities.
These programmes include Work Integrated Learning for N6 students who require workplace experience as part of their qualification, as well as internship opportunities for graduates who have completed recognised tertiary qualifications.
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and N6 In-Service Training
The Work Integrated Learning programme is offered on a fixed-term contract basis.
WIL combines academic learning with practical workplace experience when workplace learning is required to complete a formal qualification. This workplace experience is commonly known as In-Service Training.
Minimum Requirements for City of Cape Town WIL
Applicants must have:
- A National Certificate N6
- A letter from their institution requesting WIL/In-Service Training
- An academic transcript or results
- The required qualification for the placement
- Proof of residence in Cape Town
WIL Stipend
Students participating in Work Integrated Learning may receive remuneration or may be placed without remuneration, depending on budget availability.
Where a stipend applies, the City states that it may range from:
R38.40 to R60.36 per hour
Payment is therefore not guaranteed for every placement.
City of Cape Town Graduate Internship Programme
The City of Cape Town also offers a Graduate Internship Programme (GIP) on a fixed-term contract basis.
Graduate internships provide graduates who have completed their studies at recognised institutions of higher learning with opportunities for workplace exposure and skills transfer.
The programme may be offered on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on the opportunity.
Graduate Internship Minimum Requirements
Qualifications considered include:
- Three-year Diploma or National Diploma from a registered university, university of technology or accredited institution of higher learning
- Advanced Diploma
- BTech
- Degree
- Honours
- Master’s Degree
- PhD

National N Diploma and Diploma Internship Opportunities
The City also provides internship opportunities to students who have completed qualifications at accredited Further Education and Training institutions.
