Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have an appropriate recognised academic qualification.
The accepted qualifications are:
- Senior Certificate
- National Senior Certificate
- National Senior Certificate Vocational
Only the following candidates may apply:
- Registered students at tertiary institutions
- Unemployed people with one or more tertiary qualifications
- Unemployed graduates
Applicants must possess advanced numerical skills, with Mathematics or Accounting as a compulsory subject.
Advantageous Requirements
Students who are currently in their second year or above at a tertiary institution will be advantaged.
Applicants should also indicate any previous experience they have in examinations administration as an Examination Assistant, either at a marking centre or in an office-based environment.
The nature of examination administration involves strict deadlines. Successful candidates must therefore be able to work under pressure.
Examination Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
Examination Assistants appointed at examination districts and Head Office will assist with the administration, handling and control of examination scripts.
Responsibilities include:
- Receiving, checking, controlling, scanning and packing examination scripts for marking.
- Assisting with indexed archival of scripts after marking.
- Ensuring the correct number of scripts and marksheets are received for each batch, subject, paper and examination session.
- Ensuring scripts are controlled, scanned and packed for the correct marking venue.
- Ensuring discrepancies relating to batches, subjects, papers and examination sessions are addressed.
- Ensuring each bag of scripts contains two copies of the MP Flow control list of contents.
- Ensuring each bag is tagged with the correct colour-coded marking venue label.
- Creating marking-centre files for scripts that will be dispatched to marking venues.
- Assisting with the dispatch of scripts to marking venues.
- Receiving, controlling and archiving marked scripts at Head Office for retrieval when required.
Quality Assurer Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Assurers will assist with the control and verification of examination scripts at marking centres.
Responsibilities include:
- Receiving, controlling and distributing scripts to marking teams.
- Ensuring the correct number of scripts and marksheets are available for each batch during marking.
- Assisting with the control, distribution and scanning of scripts.
- Ensuring all questions on examination scripts have been marked.
- Checking that marks have been added correctly.
- Ensuring marks are correctly transferred to the front cover of each script.
- Checking that the total on each script is correct.
- Ensuring totals are correctly transferred to the marksheet.
- Ensuring discrepancies are addressed by the marking teams.
- Ensuring required amendments are made to both the script and marksheet.
- Reconciling, controlling and arranging scripts by subject and paper for indexed archival after marking.
Who May Not Apply?
The Gauteng Department of Education states that certain applicants may not apply and will not be considered.
This includes:
- Persons writing the National Senior Certificate examinations in 2026.
- Persons writing the Senior Certificate examinations in 2026.
- Persons writing AET examinations in 2026.
- Persons who have taken the VSP.
- Persons who are employed elsewhere.
