Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) Internships 2026

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is inviting suitably qualified South African graduates to apply for its Internship Programmes 2026.

The internships are offered on 24-month contracts, with opportunities in Policy & Research, Legal, Human Resources, Public Education & Information, and Monitoring & Evaluation. Monthly stipends range from R7,500 to R8,500, depending on the internship.

CGE Internship Stipends

The stipend depends on the internship programme:

  • Policy & Research Internship – R8,500 per month
  • Legal Internship – R8,500 per month
  • Human Resource Internship – R7,500 per month
  • Public Education & Information Internship – R7,500 per month
  • Monitoring & Evaluation Internship – R7,500 per month

All programmes run for 24 months.

Available CGE Internship Programmes

1. Policy & Research Internship Programme

Location: Head Office, Johannesburg
Duration: 24 months
Stipend: R8,500 per month

Applicants must have a Master of Arts (MA) Degree in Social Sciences or another relevant Social Sciences discipline.

Other requirements include:

  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout South Africa to conduct research activities.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Applicants must not have previously participated in an internship programme.
  • Must be a South African citizen.

2. Legal Internship Programme

Location: Head Office, Johannesburg
Duration: 24 months
Stipend: R8,500 per month

Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  • BA (Law)
  • BCom (Law)

Applicants should also have excellent legal research and legal drafting skills.

Additional requirements include computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Applicants must be South African citizens and must not have previously participated in an internship programme.

3. Human Resource Internship Programme

Location: Head Office, Johannesburg
Duration: 24 months
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants require a Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 7 in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants must not have previously participated in an internship programme and must be South African citizens.

4. Public Education & Information Internship Programme

Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Duration: 24 months
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants require a Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 7 in Social Sciences, Humanities, Gender Studies, Education or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants must also meet the additional requirements specified by the CGE for the programme, including the requirement that candidates must not have previously participated in an internship programme.

Applicants must be South African citizens.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation Internship Programme

Location: Head Office, Johannesburg
Duration: 24 months
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 7, Honours Degree or Master’s Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Statistics
  • Public Administration
  • Administration
  • Public Management
  • Information Management
  • Social Sciences

Applicants must be computer literate and have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Computer proficiency includes:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Access
  • Microsoft Excel
  • MS Project
  • Power BI
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Outlook

Applicants should also demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Candidates must not have previously participated in an internship programme and must be South African citizens.

Important Information for Successful Interns

Successful candidates will enter into an Internship Agreement with the Commission for Gender Equality for 24 months.

Interns will be responsible for arranging their own transport to the office.

Applicants should also understand that completing the internship does not guarantee permanent employment with the CGE. The Commission states that it will have no obligation to employ an intern after completion of the programme.

  • Certified copies of qualifications.

Applicants who obtained qualifications outside South Africa must also provide a SAQA evaluation report for their qualification.
