The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) is a public entity under the National Department of Science and Innovation (DSI).

Job Description

SANSA has a mandate to drive the promotion and use of space and cooperation in space-related activities. To achieve this mandate, the Agency fosters research in space science and technology, advances space engineering programmes, and supports the creation of an environment conducive to industrial development in space technologies within the framework of national government policy.

SANSA runs an in-service training programme in which students who are seeking experience are offered an opportunity to acquire practical work experience through mentoring and coaching.

SANSA has learning opportunities in the electronics engineering area of specialisation at the Hartebeesthoek site.

The learning areas include but are not limited to:

Operate, maintain and monitor antenna systems, radio frequency (rf), electronic telecommunications, and computer hardware or software systems and equipment associated with satellite ground station operations.

Participate in rendering specialised tracking, telemetry and command(TT&C) launch support services to SLVs (Satellite launch vehicles), transfer-orbit support (TOS), launch and early-orbit phase (LEOP), emergency, in-orbit test (IOT) services, routine life-cycle support operations, etc.

Conduct routine preventative maintenance and first-line reactive maintenance to SANSA-owned or stakeholder or customer-owned systems, equipment and infrastructure.

Job Requirements

The ideal trainees will have:

  • S4/S5 Electrical Engineering qualification with good academic results, specialising in electronics or telecommunications.
  • In search of work-integrated learning (WIL)/in-service training (practical) to complete the qualification.
  • Understanding of microwave principles, applications, and telecommunications.
  • Proficient in the English language and good communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Must be able to use both hands and have good vision.

Eligibility for Appointment:

The minimum requirements for placement of candidates are as follows:

  • Should be 35 years of age or younger at the time of submitting the application
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
