LEDET Field Ranger Vacancies Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Field Ranger positions, applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4), ABET/AET Level 3 or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
  • Valid SAPS Firearm Competency Certificate (Handgun, Rifle or Shotgun)
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (excluding persons with disabilities)*
  • No criminal record
  • Good physical fitness

Added Advantages

The following will be beneficial:

  • Experience in conservation or environmental management programmes
  • A recognised conservation training certificate or qualification

Key Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of nature reserve and conservation management
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and policies
  • Ability to handle and use firearms responsibly
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Customer service and teamwork abilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Field Rangers will be responsible for:

  • Protecting nature reserves and natural resources
  • Conducting patrols and enforcing conservation laws
  • Inspecting and repairing reserve fencing
  • Maintaining reserve infrastructure
  • Monitoring visitor activities and ensuring compliance
  • Reporting incidents of illegal activities or non-compliance
  • Assisting with fire prevention and management
  • Supporting biodiversity and ecological monitoring
  • Assisting with habitat restoration and rehabilitation projects
  • Participating in alien vegetation removal programmes
  • Supporting wildlife and game management initiatives
  • Assisting with water conservation and environmental protection activities
