Job description
Learnership, Skills programmes and or Qualifications, for the mining sector, were initiated by the MQA. The building blocks for these programmes are unit standards. As the learner become competent in the prescribed Unit Standards, credits will be added to his/her name on the MQA data base. On completion of all the relevant Unit Standards a certificate will be issued by the MQA. A formal trade test will be required on completion of a Learnership.
Minimum requirements
N2 with the following subjects:
- Mathematics (Not Mathematics Literacy)
- Engineering Science,
- Engineering Drawings/Electrical Trade Theory;
- Motor Electrical Theory
Essential unless otherwise indicated
- Certificate: Grade 12 (Maths & Science) (Required)
- Certificate: N2/N3 Engineering studies (Required)
- Valid Driver’s License CODE B/EB (Advantageous)
- Should obtain Dover “B” Symbol (Required)
- Should pass the Technical Test Battery Assessment (Required)
- English Literacy (Required)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

Assmang is jointly controlled by Assore Limited and African Rainbow Minerals which each holds 50% share capital and voting rights of the Company.The company mines manganese ore at Black Rock, Iron Ore at Khumani and Beeshoek Mines in the Northern Cape. The Company also produces Manganese alloys at Cato Ridge works.
The bulk of the Groups’ production is exported to the Far East, Europe, India and the United States of America. Black Rock Mine is situated in the Kalahari Manganese Field which contains around 80% of the world’s known high-grade Manganese resource.
Black Rock Mine Operations currently employs ±2500 permanent staff and ±3500 contractors. Manganese ore mining operations were extended and today include 3 underground mining complexes:
- Gloria (commissioned in 1975) and producing medium grade carbonated ore
- Nchwaning 2 and Nchwaning 3 (commissioned in 1981 and 2004 respectively) and producing high-grade oxide ore
