Salary
The remuneration package includes a basic salary aligned with the Paterson A3 job grade.
The successful candidate will be required to provide their own accommodation, as there is no official accommodation available in the park.
About the Position
The General Worker will assist with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of tourism facilities within Addo Elephant National Park.
The position involves cleaning, grounds maintenance, basic maintenance work, handling equipment and supplies and supporting tourism operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric), NCV Level 4 certificate or equivalent.
- 1–2 years’ practical work experience in a general worker, tourism or hospitality environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions, policies and Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
- Good time-management and organisational skills.
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
- Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and varying shifts as required by the hospitality industry.
Added Advantages
The following will be advantageous:
- Driver’s licence.
- Chainsaw and brush cutter experience.
- Knowledge of First Aid.
- Short course in landscaping.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in tourism facilities, including public areas, ablution facilities, offices, campsites and accommodation areas.
- Assisting with cleaning and maintaining chalets, huts, kitchens and other guest facilities.
- Collecting and disposing of refuse and ensuring waste areas are kept clean.
- Assisting with grounds maintenance, including sweeping, clearing vegetation, removing litter and maintaining pathways.
- Assisting with basic maintenance tasks such as painting and minor repairs.
- Reporting faults to the relevant department.
- Assisting with loading, unloading and transporting equipment, supplies, linen and other operational materials.
- Assisting with setting up and maintaining facilities for visitors and tourism activities.
- Ensuring equipment, tools and work areas are kept clean, safe and secure.
- Reporting damaged infrastructure, equipment, safety hazards or maintenance problems to the supervisor.
- Assisting tourism staff with operational duties during busy periods.
- Supporting the preparation and maintenance of facilities before and after guest arrivals and departures.
- Assisting with stock handling and movement of supplies where required.
- Following occupational health and safety, environmental and organisational procedures.
- Providing professional and courteous assistance to visitors when required.
- Assisting during emergency situations and following instructions from supervisors and management.
- Performing other reasonable duties related to the efficient operation of the tourism facility.
- Executing ad hoc duties assigned by the supervisor.
