Western Cape Government Graduate Internship Programme 2026/2027: NQF 5–8 Graduates

The Western Cape Government is inviting unemployed South African graduates residing in the Western Cape to apply for its Graduate Internship Programme 2026/2027. The programme provides successful applicants with practical workplace experience for a period ranging from 3 to 24 months.

Graduates looking for internships and employment opportunities can apply if they have completed a qualification from NQF Level 5 upwards and meet the programme’s residency and age requirements. Applications close on 7 September 2026.

Successful applicants will receive on-the-job training within participating Western Cape Government departments and a stipend determined by the department.

About the Opportunity

The Western Cape Government describes this internship as a Youth Development Programme aimed at giving unemployed graduates valuable practical workplace experience.

Successful participants can develop workplace skills, gain experience that may improve their employability and obtain contactable references for their CVs. The programme also provides career exposure intended to help graduates make more informed career choices.

There is no single specified start date. The Western Cape Government states that applications will be kept on its database for 12 months.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

• Be South African citizens
• Reside in the Western Cape
• Be between 20 and 35 years old
• Be seeking an opportunity to gain practical work experience
• Have completed an eligible qualification

The following completed qualification levels are accepted:

• Certificate – NQF Level 5
• Diploma – NQF Level 6
• Degree – NQF Level 7
• Postgraduate Qualification – NQF Level 8 or higher

Applicants who have passed their final examinations will be considered and their final results will be verified.

Recommendation

The Western Cape Government states that applicants who are financially constrained and do not have a network or support to help them make career choices are recommended for the programme.

Skills and Added Advantages

Applicants should have:

• Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two official languages of the Western Cape
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office
• Ability to operate office equipment
• Planning and organising skills

Phase 1: Registration

2. Complete the required information.
3. Attach the required documents to your profile.

Phase 2: Internship Application

6. Find Graduate Internship Programme 2026/2027.
7. Click APPLY on the actual advertisement.
8. Complete the application questions and submit your application.
9. Check for an email confirming that your application has been received.

Creating an account alone does not complete the internship application. Applicants must also complete Phase 2 and apply for the actual internship advertisement.

Applicants who do not have access to a computer may use facilities such as a local library, Thusong Service Centre, e-Centre, Western Cape Government Walk-in Contact Centre or internet café to complete the application.
