About the EPWP Security Programme
The six-month programme is intended for suitably qualified people residing within the Chris Hani District Municipality’s area of jurisdiction.
Successful applicants will help safeguard municipal employees, councillors, visitors, buildings, infrastructure, equipment and other municipal assets.
Security Guard Requirements:
Applicants for the 150 Security Guard positions must have:
- Grade 9.
- A Grade D Security Guard Qualification or Certificate recognised by the Security Industry Authority.
- A valid PSIRA certificate.
- A police clearance certificate.
- Proof of medical fitness from a registered medical practitioner.
- Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor.
- At least 12 to 18 months of relevant previous Security, Police or Military experience.
Security Guard Supervisor Requirements
Following the official erratum, applicants for the 16 Security Guard Supervisor positions must have:
- Grade 11.
- A Grade B Security Guard Qualification or Certificate recognised by the Security Industry Authority.
- A valid PSIRA certificate.
- A valid Firearm Competency Certificate.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- A police clearance certificate.
- Proof of medical fitness from a registered medical practitioner.
- Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor.
- At least two to three years of relevant previous Security, Police or Military experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
Security Guard Responsibilities
Security Guards will be responsible for duties that include:
- Safeguarding municipal assets and the inventory register at a designated site.
- Recording incoming and outgoing equipment or assets in the inventory control book.
- Updating occurrence registers with routine activities and incidents.
- Controlling the entry and exit of personnel and visitors.
- Searching vehicles on arrival and departure.
- Communicating with members of the public and directing them to the relevant offices.
- Monitoring possible risks and threats to employees, councillors, important delegations and municipal property.
- Protecting people entering and leaving municipal buildings.
- Applying municipal security protocols.
- Controlling movement by employees, councillors and important delegations.
Security personnel may be deployed at municipal buildings and water-service facilities, including pump stations, reservoirs, sewerage pumps, dams and revenue collection centres.
Security Guard Supervisor Responsibilities
Security Guard Supervisors will be responsible for duties that include:
- Preparing staff rosters and reliever intervals.
- Monitoring and ensuring proper access control.
- Maintaining an updated incident logbook.
- Safeguarding the asset and inventory register of a designated municipal site.
- Recording incoming and outgoing equipment and assets.
- Monitoring risks and threats against municipal employees, councillors, delegations and property.
- Securing municipal buildings, water-service sites and other infrastructure.
- Controlling the movement of people entering and leaving municipal buildings.
