Gauteng Department of Health| 2026 Pharmacy Internship Programme

Operations are hereby invited from suitable campaigners to do their drugstore externship in the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) for 2026.

Please note that positions are subject to final blessing.

1. Operation Process

We’re an affirmative action employer and intend to promote equity in service delivery.

The department offers externship positions at registered hospitals and quarter apothecaries, for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of enrollment with the SA Pharmacy Council( SAPC).

The externship is conducted in agreement with the rules and set programme of the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Persons interested in doing their drugstore externship programme in the public sector in Gauteng must complete and submit the following documents

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed CV pressing your qualifications, experience and chops( not longer than 4 pages)
  • Pukka clones of ID and Matric Certificate insure these are certified within the once 3 months
  • Academic Record pukka clones of your rearmost academic reiterations, generally over to the 3rd time of your drugstore Degree or farther
  • Testimonial Letter Testimonial letter from a speaker of the University
  • Hospitals Preferences Please elect only 3 healthcare institutions for your externship placement in order of precedence

– 1 Central/ Tertiary/ Specialised Hospital

– 1 Regional Hospital

– 1 District Hospital

Note You must choose one sanitarium from each order( See attached list of institutions below).

2. General Information

  • Aspirants who fail to cleave to the conditions may limit their chances for selection.
  • No late operations will be considered.
  • Please supply an address, telephone number and an e-mail where you can be fluently communicated i.e. cell phone or telephone number, address during university terms and during holiday.
  • It’s the responsibility of the aspirant to inform this office of any change in contact details. Incapability to communicate the aspirant at the supplied contact details may affect in the operation not being reused.
  • Inception date for externship is imaged to be the first working day of January 2026, or as needed by the Department.
  • Selection will begin in November 2025.
  • Still, information on an offer of employment will bee-mailed to you in November 2025, If you’re named.
  • After the acceptance of the offer of employment, if for any reason the aspirant can not take up the position on the date stated, the offer of employment will lapse incontinently.
  • The date of inception of druggist externship will be the same as the date of enrollment as a druggist intern with the SA Pharmacy Council ( SAPC). No druggist intern may commence duty, unless evidence of enrollment with the SA Pharmacy Council ( SAPC) is supplied.
  • Failure in the final examination will incontinently qualify your operation for employment and abate any offer of employment that may have been made. Having to write a supplementary test will be regarded as failure in the Final examinations of the Pharmacy Degree.
  • The Department reserves the right to change the number of druggist externship positions overall or at any of the public health care installations.
  • The externship positions will be only for a period of 12 months from the date of enrollment with the SA Pharmacy Council (SAPC). The department reserves the right not to extend any externship due to failure in the pre-registration test, other cases for extension will be considered on an individual base.

3. Pharmaceutical Services in Gauteng

Hospitals in Gauteng are categorised into Central, Tertiary, Regional, sections and Specialised Hospitals. In addition, there are District Pharmacies responsible for primary health care services.

The druggist is responsible for the conservation of stock, which involves the ordering, storehouse, and distribution of drug and the exercising of control over the drug. The druggist is also involved in the conservation of the formulary and the impact of the primary EML on the stock holding and distribution thereof.

Crucial Intern Liabilities and Duties

In- cases’ drugstore the druggist dispenses drug to cases in wards and maintains stock situations in the wards and other specialist areas. Out- cases’ drugstore Dispensing of conventions to cases attending the sanitarium as rehabilitants, commerce with the cases and counselling on their drug. Bulk compounding and prepacking The medication of unconsidered admixture for specific cases, detergents and stock fusions used in the sanitarium. The pre-packing of drug from bulk holders into patient ready packs. Case Care areas druggists attend ward rounds and interact with both medical and nursing labor force regarding all drug affiliated information and issues.

Liabilities and Operations Conditions:

  • Be a South African citizen with valid ID Documents
  • Be eligible for SACP Pharmacy internship registration in 2026
  • Have an accredited Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) Degree
