Training opportunities for unemployed youth in construction- Department of Infrastructure Learnership

The Western Cape Government (WCG) Department of Infrastructure is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for training opportunities in the Construction Sector.

The training programme entails:

  • Undergoing theoretical and practical training at a public or private TVET college
  • Working on a building site
  • Applying health and safety regulations
  • Maintaining work areas
  • Undertaking administrative tasks

Minimum requirements:

  • Between 18 and 34 years old
  • Must be SA citizen
  • Resident of the Overberg District
  • Must be unemployed
  • Health and Safety Officer: NQF L3/Grade 11 /NCV L3/N2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • Surveying: NQF L3/Grade 11/NCV L3/N2 with proficiency in Mathematics, Communication and English or has several years of experience in surveying
  • Roadworks: NQF L2/Grade 10/NCV L2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy and pass in English
  • Plant operator: NQF L2/Grade 10/NCV L2 with a pass in Mathematics, Code 8
  • Painting: NQF L2/ Grade 10/NCV L2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • Surveying: NQF L4/Grade 12/NCV L4 with proficiency in Mathematics, Communication and English or has several years of experience in surveying
  • Electrical Engineering: NQF L2/Grade 10/ NCV L2 Communication and Mathematical Literacy and basic concepts of Natural and/or Engineering Science and Technology
  • Bricklaying: NQF L2/ Grade 10 / NCV L2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • Plumbing: NQF L3 /Grade 11 / N2 / NCV L3 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy; Plumbing L2 qualification or equivalent
  • Electrical Engineering: NQF L4/Grade 12/NCVL4/N2 Electrical Studies with a pass in Communication and Mathematics
  • plumbing: NQF L3 /Grade 11/ NCV L3/N2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy; Plumbing L2 qualification or equivalent
  • Health and Safety Officer: NQF L3/Grade 11/NCV L3 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • Bricklaying: NQF L2/ Grade 10/NCV L2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • BRICKLAYING: NQF L2/ Grade 10/NCV L2 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy
  • CARPENTRY: NQF L3/ Grade 11/NCV L3 with a pass in Communication and Mathematical Literacy

Other requirements:

  • Good health and be willing to undergo a medical and substance abuse examination.
  • To work on a construction site as part of the training program.
  • To travel and work at various building sites across the Western Cape.
  • Sign a 12-month Training Agreement.
  • Allowance: R2 500 per month
  • Code 10 and 14 for Plant Operator
