Transnet invites South African unemployed youth to apply for Trainee Train Assistant Programme 2024 / 2025.
Placement: Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal
Position Purpose:
A Trainee Train Assistant is required to undergo theoretical and practical training to successfully complete the Train Assistant-Initial Course. The goal is to be certified and qualified to work as a Train Assistant.
Position Outputs:
- Successfully complete the theoretical Training Program within the given timeframe.
- Develop competency through formal learning to perform in an operational environment and operate assigned equipment.
- Accomplish work assignments and goals safely and efficiently in alignment with the Training Program and the company’s strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive records (portfolio of evidence) of all theoretical and practical training for progress assessment.
- Execute duties of a Trainee Train Assistant as prescribed by Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science.
- Be prepared to undergo theoretical and practical training in Train Assistant duties to qualify for independent work as a Train Assistant.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to undergo periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral risk assessments during the selection process and every 12 months thereafter.
- Physical fitness requirements: Hearing, vision, mental, and general physical fitness will be verified through medical tests and safety behavioral risk assessments.
- Age requirement: Candidates must be 21 years or older to undertake train driver or control duties (as per SANS 3000, par 6.2.6.8).
- Height requirement: Candidates must be a minimum of 1.6 meters tall.
- Must pass the Vienna Testing System (VTS) assessment for psychomotor ability.
- Ability to carry heavy objects as part of the job.
