Internship Programme for UMzimkhulu Local Municipality

  1. Electrical Intern

Allowance: R5,000 per month

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Computer literacy and good communication skills

Key Performance Areas:

  • Perform various duties within the Electrical Unit.

2. Civil Engineering Intern

Allowance: R5,000 per month

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying

Key Performance Areas:

  • Perform various duties within the Infrastructure Department.

3. Fire Fighter Position – UMzimkhulu Municipality

The municipality is also looking for qualified candidates to fill a permanent Fire Fighter position. This role requires dedicated individuals who can respond to emergency situations and ensure the safety of the community.

Job Details

Position: Fire Fighter (Task Grade 09) – Permanent

Annual Remuneration: R234,168

Benefits:

  • Medical aid (optional), pension, 13th cheque, homeowner’s allowance, danger, and shift allowances.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Fire Fighter 1 and Hazmat Awareness certification
  • First Aid Level 3 certification
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 08)
  • At least one year of experience as a firefighter
  • Fire Fighter 2 qualification (advantageous)
  • Must be prepared to undergo fitness and medical tests

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to fire alarms, road accidents, and hazardous spills.
  • Using firefighting equipment such as hoses, extinguishers, and water pumps.
  • Rescuing individuals from burning buildings and hazardous areas.
  • Providing emergency medical services.
  • Conducting fire safety education for the community.
  • Performing training drills and rescue practice sessions.
  • Maintaining firefighting equipment and preparing reports on emergency responses.

This position is ideal for individuals who are physically fit, passionate about public safety, and willing to work in challenging environments.
