An internship programme is an intervention by the City of Johannesburg to address the growing
demand by a tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite
to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of academic
qualification to obtain experiential training. The City is committed to providing work-based
training for students.
- This internship opportunity is applicable to youth in the Johannesburg communities, who qualify
for this internship and have never participated in an internship programme before, except in circumstances where the internship programme was not relevant to the candidate’s course of study - This Vacancy is open to all qualifying students in the Johannesburg Community for a period

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Group Finance Department has the following Internship opportunity available for a period not exceeding eighteen 18 months.

Remuneration: (Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R9 960,45 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)
(Enrolled as a student) : R3 500,00 pm (Basic salary, no benefits)
Placement: 61 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4) plus National Diploma in Finance or related Field (NQF level 6);
- Only City of Joburg residents will be considered
Primary Function:
Monitor procurement of assets of various regions by ensuring that there is a transparent system of procuring goods and service in line with Council procurement procedures. Compile maintain, reconcile and verify the accuracy of computerized assets register as per Assets management control procedures.
Key Learning Areas
- All new assets procured need to follow a capitalization process whereby they are captured and updated in the SAP assets register;
- Assist in ensuring the effective management of accounts and processes of the department.
- Review and monitor that the City of Joburg’s control policies and procedures are adhered to.
- To ensure that Group Finance assets claims are properly submitted and managed;
- Enduring that goods and /service are procured in accordance with a system that is fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost effective;
- Reduce the risk that the department may be exposed to through ineffective internal controls;
- Coordinate special project for Group Finance department;
- Manage the human resource and administration personnel of sub directorate to deliver comprehensive HR and Admin services;
- Provide and keep accurate records within and keep Information for the department and to have standardized work procedures;
