Our Youth Employment Programme offers unemployed young people an opportunity to learn and gain valuable work experience in the health and beauty retail sector.

Job description

The programme consists of classroom learning and practical on the job training in a retail store. On completion of the programme, successful participants will receive a NQF 2 Checkout Operator occupational qualification.

The group is a leader in the South African healthcare market, with Clicks being the foremost health and beauty retailer and UPD the leading full-range pharmaceutical wholesaler. Clicks Group is listed in the Personal Care, Drug and Grocery Stores sector on the JSE.

Minimum requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • 18 – 29 years.
  • Must have passed matric.
  • Must be unemployed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and be willing to learn.
  • Must not be currently registered on a Learnership or Skills Programme.

Founded over 57 years ago in 1968, the group has been listed on the JSE since 1996. Following changes in South African legislation in 2003 to allow corporate pharmacy ownership, the group entered the retail pharmacy market with the opening of the first Clicks pharmacy in 2004. Today the group is a leader in the healthcare market, in both retail pharmacy through Clicks and pharmaceutical wholesaling through UPD.

The first distribution centre opens in Cape Town and marks the move towards centrallised distribution. Today, Clicks delivers 640 million units annually, supplying over 98% of Clicks’ product needs, through three distribution centres. Over 159 000 deliveries are made to the Clicks store network annually, with drivers covering over 12.7 million kilometres annually.

The first Sorbet products were introduced into Clicks stores. In 2013, Sorbet Brands is established to further develop the Sorbet business, with Clicks owning a 25% stake. Sorbet’s colour cosmetics range was launched in March 2018, with Clicks now offering over 2 020 Sorbet products.

In 2023, the group acquired all shares in Sorbet Holdings Proprietary Limited and its subsidiaries, the transaction resulted in the Clicks group holding 100% of the issued share capital of all Sorbet entities, including Sorbet Brands Proprietary Limited in which the group already held a 25% stake.
