Job Purpose

The Tshwane Metro Police Department is recruiting 200 Metro Police Trainees. These trainees will undergo extensive training at the TMPD Police Training Academy, preparing them for a range of policing responsibilities across the City of Tshwane. The selected individuals will serve as functional metro police officers, responsible for:

  • Traffic Policing: Enforcing road traffic regulations under the National Road Traffic Act of 1996.
  • Municipal By-Law Enforcement: Policing the municipality’s by-laws and regulations.
  • Crime Prevention: Contributing to the prevention of crime within the metro area.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements:

  • A Grade 12 qualification (matric). Documentary proof must be submitted during the application process.
  • Valid Driving Licence:
  • Applicants must possess a valid driving licence for a manual transmission vehicle and must pass a practical driving test conducted by the TMPD.
  • No Criminal Record:
  • Applicants must have no criminal record or pending criminal cases. Candidates will need to submit their fingerprints to the TMPD at their own cost.

South African Citizenship & Residence:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens and residents of the City of Tshwane metropolitan area. Proof of residence (and an affidavit confirming address if the surname differs from the registered owner) is required.

Age:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.

Medical Fitness:

  • Candidates must be medically fit as per occupational health requirements. A medical certificate confirming the ability to perform strenuous exercises is required.

Physical Fitness Evaluation:

  • All candidates must complete a physical fitness assessment and evaluation as part of the selection process.

Psychometric Assessment:

  • Applicants must be willing to undergo and pass a psychometric assessment to evaluate their mental and emotional suitability for the role.

Language Proficiency:

  • Candidates must be proficient in English and pass a language assessment.

Firearm Competency:

  • Applicants must not have been declared incompetent to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act of 2000.

Visible Tattoos:

  • Applicants should not have visible tattoos when wearing the uniform of the TMPD.

Code of Conduct:

  • Successful candidates will be required to sign and adhere to the TMPD’s Code of Conduct.
