Steps to follow on how to apply for a National N Diploma

All applications and enquiries for diplomas are dealt with by the examination officer at each campus.


Processes & Procedures:


All applications must be done via the candidate’s examination centre.


It is compulsory that candidates complete the DHET application form.


Certified copies of Identity document, certificates (N4, N5, N6 & trade test) and any other supporting documentary proof, e.g. Statement of results, must accompany the application.


Requirements:


A minimum of 12 successfully passed subjects.


A candidate must produce proof of 18 months (Business) / 24 months (Engineering) applicable experience in a relevant industry that has as its main function the practical execution of the programme applied for.


A minimum of 2 instructional offerings on the N6 level must be relevant to the candidate’s vocation.


The experiential training letter must be on an official original letterhead, signed by the manager and must bear company stamp.


Specific dates (day, month, year) of commencement and ending of services regarding the candidate’s practical training must be indicated.


The experiential training letter of candidates who obtain their practical experience at a TVET College must be signed by the Campus Manager.


Non-compliance:


Applications that do not meet the requirements will be rejected and sent back by DHET to the TVET College.

Requirements for the issuing of a NATIONAL TECHNICAL DIPLOMA (NATED)

  • The candidate must have passed all subjects in N4, N5 and N6 ( minimum of 12 subjects).
  • The work experience must be related to at least TWO of the N6 subjects.
  • All subjects must be passed with a minimum of 40% unless otherwise indicated in Report 191.
  • Condonation can only be granted at National) Certificate level, no additional condonation will be considered for the issuing of a National N diploma
  • All applications must be accompanied by a QCTO log book with an original stamp from the college
  • The start and end date must be written in full (1 January 2018 to 30 July 2019).
  • Consider holidays, strikes and/or any other disruptions.
  • Applicants are advised to give supervisor details land line and cellphone numbers.
  • A precise description of the type of work performed Of experience obtained must be accompanied by evidence (e.g photos, minutes, invoices etc.,
  • All applications must contain evidence in a form of a portfolio
  • If an applicant was able to place himself or herself, it is important to inform the college so that an MOU must be drafted.
  • Applicable experience gained prior to entry to the tertiary level and during the tertiary studies, can be included in the application for consideration as part of the required practical experience.
  • NGOs and churches can be used to gain relevant experience only if they are registered with the relevant department
  • An original diploma is issued once only to a qualifying candidate.
  • In a case of a lost diploma, a duplicate diploma will be issued marked Duplicate upon request

Required documents to be submitted at the end of In-service training:

The completed and stamped work experience .g book

• Application form.

• Relevant supporting documents.(Evidence)

• Company letter in accompany letter head with original stamp.

Certified copies must not be older than 3 months:

• identity document

• N4 Certificate

• N5 Certificate

• N6 Certificate

• Statements of results: N4, NS & N6

Student and employers should note that the issue of National N Diploma is a DHET/QCTO process and not a college internal process.

The final verification resides with the DHET/QCTO.


Reasons for declining an application:

  • Workplace experience not related to the particular diploma.
  • Incorrect workplace environment.
  • Workplace experience too administrative in nature-did not involve practical knowledge and skills of 2 N6 subjects
  • For Engineering at least two core N6 subjects must be related to the trade.
  • Less than 12 passed subjects.
  • Less than 18 months for Business Studies and 24 months for Engineering Studies.
  • Cannot confirm practical experience obtained because phone numbers are not working.
  • Workplace letter not signed/ not stamped by manager /not original.
  • Specific commencement and ending of practical experience not indicated.
  • In order to qualify for a National N Diploma: Management Assistant a candidate must pass Information Processing N6
  • Workplace experience letter should indicate duties performed by applicant.
  • Job training manuals/job descriptions/KPA’s Or KRA’S is not acceptable.
  • A diploma cannot be issued before three years have passed since entrance the tertiary level.
  • To qualify for a National N Diploma: Engineering Studies a candidate needs to pass 12 subjects with at least 4 subjects on the N4.N5 and N6 level, with a maximum of 5 subjects on N4 level.
  • The applicant must he in possession of applicable N4.N5 and N6 certificates before a diploma can be issued.
