Are you a fresh finance youth who wants to see how money moves in a local government? Magareng Local Municipality in Warrenton, Northern Cape, is looking for one Finance Intern to join their team for a two‑year contract.

About the Internship

This internship is part of a program that wants to give young people a solid start in public finance. You’ll work inside the Finance Department and report straight to the Chief Financial Officer. The job follows the rules set out by the Municipal Finance Management Act and the National Treasury, so you’ll learn how real governments keep their money in order.

Who should apply?

  • To be considered, you need a three‑year B.Com degree. Your major can be Accounting, Economics, Internal Audit, or Financial Management. If you also have a qualification in Internal Audit or Risk Management, that’s a bonus.
  • You must be unemployed, between 21 and 35 years old, and ready to learn – no work experience is required. Good writing and speaking skills, and being comfortable using a computer, are essential.

What you’ll do:

  • Work under the Chief Financial Officer’s guidance.
  • Help roll out the National Treasury Budget Reform Programme.
  • Support municipal budget processes.
  • Create and maintain statistical reports that show how money is spent.
  • Enter and keep financial data in digital records for every part of the finance team.
  • Attend training sessions and other learning opportunities in the workplace.
  • Performance will be checked regularly by the CFO.
