About the Programme

This is an exciting opportunity to be placed at a local fishing cooperative, where you will receive hands-on training and skills development in sustainable fishing practices, kelp and line fish research, cooperative operations, and more. The programme is part of CSA’s Oceans Programme, focused on promoting environmental sustainability and marine-based livelihoods.

Invitation from Conservation South Africa (CSA) for unemployed South African youth between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply for the Blue Economy Learnership Programme 2025.

Due Date: 30 May 2025 at 17:00

Duration: 11 months

Placement: Port Nolloth, Richtersveld Local Municipality, Namakwa District, Northern Cape, South Africa

Position Available

  • Blue Economy Learnerships – x6 Posts

Who Can Apply?

  • South African citizens aged 18–35 years
  • Residents of Port Nolloth and surrounding areas in the Richtersveld Local Municipality
  • Minimum qualification: Grade 10, 11, or 12 (Matric)
  • Must be willing to work outdoors and in physically demanding environments
  • Strong interest in marine conservation, sustainability, and community development

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Qualification in marine or environmental studies
  • Experience in fishing or marine-related work

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in operations at a local fishing cooperative
  • Engage in wild kelp harvesting, line fish processing, data collection, and administration
  • Participate in training workshops on conservation and fisheries management
  • Learn about cooperative governance, marketing, and financial management
